Keene SwampBats vs Vermont Mountaineers (Game 1)
Final Score: Mountaineers 3, SwampBats 0
Montpelier, VT- Earlier scoring gives the Mountaineers the edge for a shut out win in Game One of a double header Tuesday.
The Mountaineers got off to a quick start on an RBI single by Bryce Rudisill (Mt. St. Mary's) scoring Matthew Jackson (Stony Brook) from third in the first inning. They added on two insurance runs in the bottom of the third on a throwing error followed by another RBI single this time by Rex Hauser (UMaine) scoring David Alvarez (EKU). Alvarez had a solid day at the plate going two for two with a walk.
Nicholas Falla (SDSU) earned his second win going four innings allowing no runs on only two hits and one walk with five strike outs. Jackson Hulcher (Portal) followed with a strong two innings out of the bullpen allowing no runs and no hits with three strike outs. Davis Budd (Western Carolina) earned his second save of the season, throwing the last inning.
Unfortunately for the SwampBats Offense, the Mountaineers pitching was unstoppable. Only two hits were allowed in the game, one to Jackson Smith (Cincinnati) and the other to Avery Smith (Penn State). Joe Olson (Louisville) had a strong inning of relief for the Swampbats, but the damage had already been done.
Keene SwampBats vs Vermont Mountaineers (Game 2)
Final Score: Mountaineers 3, SwampBats 0
Montpelier, VT- The Mountaineers hold off the SwampBats attempted comeback in the late innings to secure the double header sweep in Game Two.
The Mountaineers got ahead early once again, with Matthew Minckler (Delaware) and David Alvarez (EKU) taking advantage of a couple wild pitches in the first inning. Minckler and Alvarez helped give the Mountaineers two more runs in the third inning, when Alvarez hit into a fielder's choice giving him the RBI and Minckler scored in the following at bat on another wild pitch.
Max Weber (Felician) earned his first win of the season, throwing two innings of relief allowing no earned runs on two hits and no walks with two strikeouts. Brendon Miller (Fairfield) had a phenomenal start, going three innings allowing no runs and no hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Andrew Gendi (Felician) earned his first save of the season, throwing 1.2 innings.
The SwampBats offense didn't come alive until the fifth inning when Antonio Cordeiro (St. John's) hit an RBI single that scored Gavin Speirs. They added on two more in the top of the sixth off of an RBI double down the right field line by Micah Kendrick (Louisiana Lafayette) followed by a walk to Dylan Fitzsimmons (St. John's) later in the inning that brought in a run. Unfortunately for the Swampbats that was all their offense could produce tonight against a solid Vermont pitching staff.
The SwampBats look to bounce back tomorrow as they head home to Alumni Field to host the Mystic Schooners, while the Mountaineers prepare for the Upper Valley Nighthawks to come to town to Montpelier Recreation Field tomorrow as well.
