Mountaineers' Alvarez, Keene's Krzysiak Earn NECBL Weekly Awards
Vermont Mountaineers right fielder David Alvarez (Eastern Kentucky) and Keene Swampbats right-handed pitcher Brody Krzysiak (Kent State) have been named the NECBL Player and Pitcher of the Week after standout performances during Week 5.
Alvarez earns NECBL Player of the Week honors after turning in the league's most dominant offensive performance of Week 5. The Vermont Mountaineers outfielder went 10-for-12 (.833) at the plate, leading the league with 10 hits while driving in seven runs and collecting six extra-base hits. He finished the week with a .888 on-base percentage, a 1.625 slugging percentage, and a remarkable 2.513 OPS. The Toronto, Ontario, native has been one of the NECBL's hottest hitters all summer, ranking third in the league with 24 hits while batting .400 through 60 at bats. Alvarez is coming off a standout junior season at Eastern Kentucky, where he earned Second Team All-ASUN honors after batting .317 with 16 doubles, eight home runs, and 49 RBI in 54 starts.
Krzysiak, a native of Bay City, Michigan, earns his second NECBL Pitcher of the Week award of the 2026 season after dominating across two appearances during Week 5. The Keene right-hander tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four and walking only one batter. He opened the week with four shutout innings against North Adams before earning the win with three scoreless frames in Keene's victory over Sanford. Through 18.1 innings this summer, Krzysiak boasts a 1.47 ERA, 0.55 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts. He is coming off his junior season at Kent State, where he struck out 33 batters over 32 innings while earning Mid-American Conference Academic All-MAC Team honors.
Alvarez and the fifth-place Mountaineers (9-15) travel to face the North Adams SteepleCats tonight, while Krzysiak and the second-place SwampBats (14-8-1), winners of five of their six games last week, visit the Sanford Mainers.
