Ellis and Lenahan Collect NECBL Week 3 Player and Pitcher Awards
The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) announces the Week 3 Player & Pitcher of the Week honors, including honorable mentions for the week concluding on Sunday, June 21st.
North Shore Navigators shortstop Hudson Ellis (Oral Roberts) and Newport Gulls right-handed pitcher Jake Lenahan (Holy Cross) earned the league's weekly awards after standout performances.
Ellis, a native of Round Rock, TX, continued his strong start to the summer by helping lead North Shore to its fifth straight win during the week. The Oral Roberts Golden Eagle batted .533 with a 1.615 OPS and collected 14 total bases over five games. Ellis recorded five extra-base hits over this past week, including four doubles and a triple. North Shore's shortstop also added four stolen bases and nine runs scored to help propel the Navigators' offense. Through the 2026 season, Ellis leads the league in batting average (.455), on-base percentage (.606), and slugging (.727). This performance follows an impressive redshirt freshman season at Oral Roberts, where he started all 59 games of the 2026 season, batted .281, scored 35 runs, collected 54 hits, drove in 31 RBI, and led the team in HBP with 18.
Lenahan, a native of South Abington Township, PA, was dominant as a starter during his appearance this week. The Holy Cross right-hander earned a win against the Valley Blue Sox on June 20, throwing six hitless innings with six strikeouts to secure a 10-0 victory. Lenahan currently ranks second in the league with a 1.13 ERA. Lenahan is coming off a sophomore season in 2026 at Holy Cross in which he earned All-Patriot League honors and Academic All-Patriot League. His best game of the collegiate season came against Army West Point on May 10, where he pitched 7.1 innings and struck out 10 batters. In the 2026 season he led the team in saves and recorded the second highest number of strikeouts (67). This followed an outstanding freshman season where he earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the Ron Soucie Award for the team's rookie of the year, and was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
The North Shore Navigators (6-8) and Newport Gulls (7-7-1) currently sit fourth in their respective Division standings. Today's scheduled matchups featuring the Keene SwampBats at the North Shore Navigators and the North Adams SteepleCats at the Newport Gulls have been postponed.
