North Adams, MA – Monday night around the NECBL featured dominant pitching performances, late offensive surges, and another strong showing from the unbeaten Valley Blue Sox. Vermont rolled past North Adams behind a pair of breakout innings, Keene survived a late Sanford rally at Goodall Park, and Mystic used timely hitting to top Ocean State in Groton.
The Vermont Mountaineers earned an 11-0 shutout victory over the North Adams SteepleCats Monday night at Montpelier Recreation Field behind explosive middle innings and dominant pitching.
After taking an early lead on an RBI single by Kevin Hager (Cornell) in the first inning, Vermont broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning. Aidan Botti (Rhode Island) delivered a two-run double before JJ Parsons (North Carolina Greensboro) followed with an RBI double of his own. A throwing error and wild pitch later in the inning extended the Mountaineers lead to 6-0.
Vermont added three more runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Nick Mullen (George Washington). The Mountaineers added two additional insurance runs in the eighth inning to cap the scoring.
Brendon Miller (Fairfield) earned the victory after tossing two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Niklas Pavia (Portal) took the loss for North Adams.
The Mountaineers travel to Newport on Tuesday seeking a third consecutive victory, while the SteepleCats return home to host the Mystic Schooners.
The Keene SwampBats held off a late Sanford rally to secure a 6-5 victory over the Mainers Monday night at Goodall Park.
Micah Kendrick (Kansas State) powered the SwampBats offense, finishing 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and four RBI. After Sanford jumped ahead 3-1 in the first inning, Keene answered quickly behind RBI contributions from Jackson Smith (Cincinnati) and Kendrick.
Kendrick’s two-run homer in the fourth inning gave Keene a 5-3 advantage before adding an RBI single in the sixth to stretch the lead. Sanford cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the sixth but could not complete the comeback.
Parker Lind (Kent State) picked up the victory for Keene, while Robert Gilchrist (UConn) earned his first save of the season. Michael Bradshaw (Merrimack) was charged with the loss for Sanford.
Keene returns home Tuesday night to face the Upper Valley Nighthawks while Sanford heads to Fraser Field to take on the North Shore Navigators.
The Cotuit Kettleers defeated the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks 6-2 Monday night in an eight-inning exhibition contest at The Shark Tank.
Cotuit struck quickly with a first-inning RBI from Jake Hanley, while Martha’s Vineyard answered in the bottom half after Griffin Crain (Louisville) scored on a single from Jaylen Hernandez (Winthrop).
The Kettleers regained the lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Isaac Sturgess before adding insurance runs throughout the middle innings, including an RBI double by Jesse Di Maggio and a solo home run from Hogan Denny.
Madux Iovinelli (High Point) tossed five innings for the Sharks before Angel Cruz (Northeastern) closed out the final three innings.
Martha’s Vineyard returns to NECBL action Tuesday night at Valley.
The Valley Blue Sox remained unbeaten Monday night with a 5-2 victory over the Danbury Westerners in Holyoke.
Valley jumped out early as Chris Carson (Stony Brook) scored on a sacrifice fly from Trevor Harmon (San Francisco) in the opening inning. The Blue Sox added three more runs in the second inning behind RBI contributions from Nico Soul (Appalachian State) and Carson.
Nick Tomasetto (Seton Hall) added another sacrifice fly in the third inning to extend the Valley lead to 5-0.
Danbury mounted its only offensive rally in the sixth inning as Kyle Garbowski (Quinnipiac) delivered a two-run single to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Nolan Geisler (UMass Lowell) earned the win on the mound while Jack Ensell (Barry) secured the save. Glenn Smith (Richmond) took the loss for Danbury.
The Blue Sox host Martha’s Vineyard on Tuesday night while Danbury welcomes Newport.
The Mystic Schooners used timely hitting and lockdown bullpen work to defeat the Ocean State Waves 8-4 Monday night at Joe Wolfe Field.
Ocean State collected 10 hits in the game and received strong offensive performances from Charlie Saul (Bryant), who drove in two runs, and Max Farrell (San Diego State), who finished 3-for-5.
Mystic countered with a balanced attack led by Gabriel Natividad (Winthrop), who went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Camden Righi (UConn) added two RBI while Casey Wensley (Bryant) scored twice and stole two bases.
After allowing three early runs, the Schooners bullpen settled in as Brady Bouchard (Portal) earned the win with two scoreless innings. Ashton Arryor (Georgetown), Jack Ballou (Lindsey Wilson), and Conner Lane (UConn) combined to hold Ocean State scoreless over the final four innings.
Mystic travels to North Adams Tuesday night while Ocean State returns to action Wednesday against Bristol.
The Newport Gulls defeated the Bristol Blues 4-3 Monday night behind a three-run home run from Cole Johnson (Austin Peay).
Johnson’s fifth-inning blast plated both Chris Klug (Navy) and Maddox Haley (Gonzaga) to give Newport a 3-0 lead.
Bristol answered with RBI from Steve Polizzi (Portal), Westin Boyle (Purdue), and Trent Rice (Michigan State), but Newport’s bullpen shut the door late.
Nate Schlote (Vanderbilt) struck out seven over three hitless innings for the Gulls before the bullpen combined for 10 additional strikeouts. Zane Stahl (Louisville) earned the victory with 1.2 scoreless innings to close out the win.
Newport travels to Danbury on Tuesday while Bristol returns to action Wednesday against Ocean State.
