PITCHER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 6/13

Bryce Lahrman RHP

Danbury Westerners

University of Dayton

The hometown fans in Danbury were treated to a dazzling pitching performance at the Westerners home opener on June 8. Lahrmann struck out fifteen batters allowing only three hits and a walk in a complete game 11-0 shutout of the Holyoke Blue Sox.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 6/13

Jim Schult OF/RHP

Sanford Mainers

Eastern Connecticut State University

After the first extended week of play the Mainers are in first place in the East. Jim Schult's bat accounted for a lot of the team's success. In eight games Schult had 14 hits and scored 7 runs in 32 ABs. Throw in a double, a home run, 4 walks and 2 stolen bases helping Sanford get off to a fast start.

Danbury Westerners

Franklin Pierce University

Derek had some prolific numbers this past week which brought him to the top in batting average and 2nd in RBI for the season. Ingui batted .438 for the week with 7 hits and 6 RBI with a hefty OBP of .500.

 

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 6/20

Jeremy Baltz OF

Keene Swamp Bats

St. John’s University

Baltz joined the Swamp Bats late after the Johnnies were eliminated from the College World Series. He continued his hot hitting, this time with a wood bat, by belting a 2-run homer against Danbury in his first NECBL game. For the week Baltz hit .400 knocking in 6 matching Ingui’s OBP of .500.

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 6/20

Maxx Catapano RHP

Holyoke Blue Sox

Bellevue University

Maxx threw a complete game shutout against the Danbury Westerners on June 18th. Catapano won a pitcher’s duel with Mike Hauschild (Dayton) gaving up only 4 hits, walking 2, striking out 4 while keeping his opponents average to .133 improving his record to 2-1.

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 6/20

Brandon Bargas LHP

North Shore Navigators

University of Oklahoma

It was 9 batters up and 9 down in 3 innings of relief in 3 games for Brandon and the Navs this past week. Versus Lowell on June 15th Bargas K'd 2 and earned his first save. On the 17th against Holyoke he fanned one earning his second save and again struck out one of the three Bay Sox he faced on June 19th.

 

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 6/27

Stephen Rivera RHP

North Adams SteepleCats

St. John's University

Led by starting pitcher Stephen Rivera, SteepleCats pitchers dominated New Bedford on 6/25 in a 3-1 home win. Rivera went 5 2/3 innings, allowed just one unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out 10. Rivera dominated from the start, as he got eight of his first nine outs by strikeout.

Maxx Catapano RHP

Bellevue University

Catapano has been a work horse for the Blue Sox. Maxx was Co-pitcher of the Week last week throwing a complete game shutout. He repeats here with another complete game victory, this time beating Sanford giving up just 1 earned run and striking out 8 Mainers.

 

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 6/27

Tucker Nathans 2B

Danbury Westerners

Fairfield University

Nathans had 2 HRs and 5 RBIs helping Danbury defeat Keene 12-2 on June 23. For the week Tucker hit .318 with 7 hits, 7 RBI, with 1 walk and 2 stolen bases. His OBP was .556.

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 6/27

Kenny Diekroeger 3B/SS

Newport Gulls

Stanford University

The Tampa Bay Rays drafted Kenny in the second round last year. The Stanford freshman was a hitting machine this past week batting .480 with 12 hits including 4 doubles and 6 RBI. He also stole 2 bases.

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK-Week ending July 4

Dustin Ramey RHP

Sanford Mainers

UMass-Lowell

Ramey  was lights out from the start, pitching a perfect first and setting the tone against the Lowell All-Americans on July 2. Ramey went seven shutout innings allowing three hits, two walks, striking out one in a 7-0 victory for the Mainers.

 

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK-Week ending July 4

Mark Appel RHP

Newport Gulls

Stanford University

Newport starting pitcher Mark Appel no-hit the Swamp Bats through five-and-two-thirds innings to guide the Gulls over Keene, 6-0 on June 30. Appel (3-0) lasted seven innings, yielding just two hits, no runs, three walks and two strikeouts. 

 

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK-Week ending July 4

Jim Schult OF/RHP

Eastern CT State University

Schult hit .467 for the week scoring 3 runs on 7 hits including a double, triple, home run and 3 RBI. He stole 1 base and had a OBP of .529

Matt Petty INF

North Adams SteepleCats

Barry University

Matt hit .571 scoring 5 times on 12 hits with a double and 3 RBI. He stole 4 bases and had a OBP of .600 for the week.

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 7/11

Jeremy Baltz OF

Keene Swamp Bats

St. John’s University

There’s a tight battle for playoff spots in the Western Division. Jeremy Baltz helped Keene’s cause with a stellar week of hitting batting .591 with 13 hits, 9 runs scored, 2 doubles, a home run and 4 RBI. That and 8 walks gave him an amazing .710 On-base percentage for the week. This is Jeremy’s second Player of the Week Award.

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 7/11

Cole Johnson RHP

Vermont Mountaineers

Notre Dame

Johnson helped the Mountaineers snap a 3-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Sanford on  July 11. Cole was dominant from the start, as he went seven innings striking out six Mainers. He shut down the Mainers in the middle innings, as he retired 14 of 15 batters that came his way. The Mainers one run was unearned.

UMass-Lowell

Ramey earns his second consecutive Pitcher of the Week Award by continuing his string of shutout innings with 6 more against Holyoke on July 9. The righty scattered two hits, walked only one, and retired the final eight men he faced before turning things over to the bullpen for the final three frames.

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 7/18

William Carmona IF

Vermont Mountaineers

Stony Brook University

 

Willie started the week helping to beat Laconia with a home run and 2 RBI. On the 16th he knocked in 3 runs in a win against North Shore. He finished the week with a double and a grand slam in a tough loss to New Bedford ending the week batting  .318 with 7 hits, 2 doubles, 2 HR and 5 walks.

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 7/18

Alex Foltz OF

Holyoke Blue Sox

James Madison University

 

In just 3 games Foltz put together a week’s worth of numbers finishing the week with a .583 average with 7 hits in 12 AB hitting 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR and 6 RBI helping Holyoke win their last 3 games going into the All-Star break.

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 7/18

Tony Bucciferro RHP

Newport Gulls

Michigan State

 

Tony started against North Shore on July 12 and got a win going 8 strong innings giving up just 1 earned run limiting the Navs to 4 hits and striking out 6. Seth Simmons picked up his 6th save to close out the 3-1 victory.

Jeff Frost RHP

Keystone College

 

Jeff made two appearances in relief this week in two tough Swamp Bat loses but did his best to keep them in the games throwing 4 innings allowing no earned runs striking out 5 of the 13 batters he faced.

Effrey Valdez INF

Lowell All-Americans

NY Inst. Of Technology

Returning for a second season with Lowell Valdez helped the All-Americans through a grueling 7 games this week. The NECBL doesn’t have a record book for weekly totals but the 11 RBI knocked in by Effrey may be the best ever. He compiled a .483 average with 14 hits including 3 doubles, 2 triples and 1 HR. He also walked twice and stole a base. His OBP was .500 and Slugging Pct. .828.

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 7/25

 

Tyler Gebler RHP

North Adams SteepleCats

Rutgers University

On July 22 Gebler faced Vermont and threw a complete game 3-hit shutout. Tyler faced just one batter over the minimum since only 4 reached base and 3 were retired on the basepaths. Gebler struck out nine and walked none in his second complete game and first shutout of the season improving his record to 5-1.

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 7/25

 

Geoff Brown  LHP

Newport Gulls

U. of Washington

Geoff returned for his third season with Newport as part of a solid pitching staff. On July 25 he threw a 6-hit complete game shutout defeating Keene 2-0. He didn’t allow a walk and struck out 3 Swamp Bats earning his second win of the season. His season ERA now stands at 2.60.

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 8/1

Effrey Valdez INF

Lowell All-Americans

NY Institute of Technology

Valdez earned his second consecutive Player of the Week honor by repeating his gaudy numbers and trying to push Lowell into the final playoff spot. That didn’t happen but Effrey wound up breaking the NECBL record for RBIs in a season with 42. For the week he had 12 hits, 3 doubles, 1 HR and 11 RBIs, and scored 6 times. He walked 5 times and had an OBP of .500

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 8/1

Dan Gamache 3B

Newport Gulls

Auburn University

The Gulls ended the season with the best overall record. Gamache helped them get there with a stellar week of play. In 7 games he scored 6 runs with 11 hits, 2 doubles, 1 homer and 6 RBI. Add to that 3 walks giving him an OBP of .538

PITCHER OF THE WEEK-Week ending 8/1

Scott Firth RHP

Keene Swamp Bats

Clemson University

In a busy last week of the season Firth helped Keene solidify their playoff spot in the Western Division. Scott gave Keene their first complete game shutout of the 2010 season. In a 7-inning double header game against Vermont Firth gave up just 4 hits while striking out 7 Mountaineers.
