Blue Sox Land Local Catcher Killeen and Lefty Pitcher Albert

Holyoke, Mass. (Tuesday May 6, 2008) – Blue Sox General Manager Barry Wadsworth is proud to announce the signing of two junior Massachusetts natives, Trinity College’s Sean Killeen (Greenfield, MA) and the University of Vermont’s Justin Albert (Hull, MA).

Killeen is a junior catcher on the number three ranked Division 3 team in the nation, Trinity College. Killeen is the leading hitter for the Bantams hitting an astonishing .421, has scored a team high 47 runs, and leads the team in on-base percentage, as well, at .551. He is also top three on the team in a variety of other hitting categories including homeruns with six, RBI with 47, doubles with nine and triples with two.

His is not just a phenomenal offensive threat. He is also a defensive stud, having not committed an error during the entire course of the 34 game regular season, and registering 17 assists from behind the dish. GM/COO Barry Wadsworth says of Killeen, “we are very excited about Sean being a member of this team and I love the fact that he’s a local kid.”

The Blue Sox also added a battery-mate for Killeen in left hander Justin Albert from the University of Vermont. Albert has been a horse for the Catamounts leading the team in innings pitched with 56.2 as well as in starts with nine. He carries a 3-4 record and an ERA of just over four.

Albert was named America East Conference pitcher of the week for the week ending on April 27th. In the week Albert was dominating in a nine-inning complete game win at Albany Sunday. He scattered just six singles, walked only one and struck out a career-high 10 including four over the last two innings of the 3-1 victory. The lone run the junior lefthander allowed was unearned.

Wadsworth says of the southpaw “Justin is a veteran of the NECBL and we are happy we were able to sign him.” Albert, Killeen and all of the Holyoke Blue Sox are slated to begin play on Friday June 6th up in Sanford, Vermont as the Blue Sox franchise opens against a Northern Division foe in the Mainers.
