(August 3 2007) For the second day in a row the Holyoke Giants
and Lowell All Americans battled into extra innings. Last night
the game was won by the Giants in the bottom of the 11th,
tonight the teams scored 16 runs in 7.5 innings and then blanked
each other for another 7.5 until Kevin Nolan of the Lowell All
Americans drove home James Chevalier to win the game 9-8. The
teams will play tomorrow in Holyoke for the deciding game in the
series.
Holyoke started the game off with 2 runs in the 1st inning.
Leadoff hitter Justin Little started it off with a bunt single,
was sacrificed to 2nd and later scored on a Jack Cawley base
hit. Also scoring on Cawley?s single was Third Baseman Kody
Hightower. The Giants scored their third run of the game in the
3rd inning when Hightower scored on a double play.
The All Americans got on the board in the bottom of 3rd on a
Brendan Akashian single. Lowell added another run in the 4th
when Tom Stack-Babich homered to left field. In the 5th Holyoke
scored 2 runs on a Cawley homerun bringing the score to 5-2
Giants. However, in Lowell?s half of the 5th the momentum swung
when left fielder Kevin Rivers hit a 3 run triple and
subsequently scored on a throwing error by the second baseman.
The All Americans scored another 2 runs in the 6th inning
stretching their lead to 8-5. In the next frame Holyoke was able
to cut away 1 run from that lead after Kevin Renaud singled home
Hightower. In the 8th inning the Giants rallied again when Matt
Reimer started the inning with a bunt hit. Two batters later
Mike Walczuk hit a two run homerun that just stayed fair of the
left field foul pole tying the game at 8.

Hightower 3-5 3 BB 2 2B 3R. Mike Walzcuk 1-1 2 run PH HR. Sean
Bergeron 5 IP relief 5K 0R.
The Giants next game is tomorrow night at 7 pm at Mackenzie
Stadium.
