Comes to Life in Victory Over Holyoke
Mainers Win 9-2
Sanford, ME
(July 27, 2007) The Holyoke Giants (23-15) were defeated by the
Sanford Mainers (17-22) by a score of 9-2. The win kept
Sanford's playoff hopes alive. They were led by starting pitcher
Eric Katzman who went 7 innings struck out 6 and allowed 2 runs.
The start of the game looked promising as Holyoke?s first batter
Justin Little doubled to lead off the game and was driven home
later that inning by cleanup hitter Kyle Bellows. In the top of
the third Little struck again, this time with a triple to the
right centerfield gap. The next batter left fielder, Kevin
Renaud grounded to the shortstop scoring Little.
Sanford broke the shutout in the 4th inning in a big way scoring
5 runs, only one being earned. NECBL average leader, Brian
Kemp?s 2 run triple, highlighted the rally. Stanford struck
again the next inning as Tim Kalcynski belted a bases clearing
double bringing the score to 8-2 Sanford. The Mainer added final
run in the 7th inning.
For the Giants starter Santo Maertz went 4 innings striking out
4 walking 3 allowing 5 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits. Heath Wayslow
pitched the 5th inning. Chicopee native Sean Beregeon followed
in the 6th, Josh Crevlin then pitched a perfect 7th. The final
Giants pitcher was Patrick Keller who pitched a scoreless 8th
Notable performances from the Giants were: CF Justin Little 3-5
3B 2B 2 runs scored. C Craig Turner 2-3 BB.
The Giants next game is tomorrow night at 6:30pm against the
Keene Swamp Bats in Keene. Monday the Giants face off at home
against the Sanford Mainers.
